Introduction to the Indiana First Steps Best Practice Guidelines

First Steps is Indiana's early intervention system, serving children ages birth through two years of age experiencing developmental delays or disabilities and their families. The goal is to provide access to appropriate early intervention services to eligible children and families through a coordinated system of family-centered care offered in the natural environments of the children and families being served.

The five chapters in this manual provide information about what practices are required, what practices are recommended, what Indiana law says, and what research and resources exist to inform early intervention work. This manual is currently in draft form.

    The chapters are:

    Evaluation and Assessment

    Procedural Safeguards

    Service Coordination

    Early Intervention Services

    Transition
