Language is everywhere!
We are bathed in oral and written language wherever we go. We know from years of research that language and literacy are one dynamic system, each informing the other. Everything a child does during the day, whether at home or in an early care and education setting, has the potential for communication interactions. Children who live in language-rich environments enter school more ready to engage in kindergarten learning opportunities that those who experience less linguistically stimulating environments. How can we create consistently rich language and literacy experiences for the children in our care? Join us, and discover ways to foster young children's learning in this critical school readiness area.
Participants will discover ways to provide children with deeper, quality prekindergarten language and literacy experiences that will give them a head start as they enter kindergarten. They will identify ways they can facilitate deeper understanding through the questions they ask, the feedback they provide, and the types of conversational techniques they use. They will discuss the merits of various techniques and identify those they will implement in their own practice.
