The strong association of oral health with chronic health conditions makes it imperative to improve access to and quality of dental care for people with disabilities. Yet, there is no comprehensive and up-to-date information necessary to address the oral health needs of people with disabilities in Indiana. That information is required to develop an appropriate intervention, evaluate its impact, and monitor its progress towards a goal. It is also critical to identifying vulnerable groups and their needs, and addressing them accordingly.
The goal of this project is to collect comprehensive data about oral health needs of Hoosiers with disabilities as well as current capacity and needs of dentists in Indiana. This information will offer a blue print for the transformation necessary to improve oral health and ultimately general health and well-being of people with disabilities in Indiana.
This project is funded by the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities (GCPD).
