The Center for Health Equity at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community will present on the oral health needs of Hoosiers with disabilities, based on the findings from interviews and an online survey.
Michele Trivedi, the Insurance Advocacy Resource Center Manager at the Arc of Indiana, and Christine Hennessey, Director of Training and Special Initiatives at Indiana Family to Family, will present how to navigate the dental care system, including dental insurance and coverage, common barriers caregivers encounter, and how to work with providers. They will also provide suggestions from their own experiences as family caregivers on how to make a dental care visit less stressful.
Louise McCarthy, R.D.H., C.D.A., M.S.M., has 40 years of experience as a dental hygienist and dental public health instructor. Currently, Louise is a Development Specialist for The Arc Gloucester in New Jersey. She served as a program dental hygienist for Dental Lifeline Network providing screening, prevention, education, and treatment services.
Louise will provide specific tips, techniques, and tools for caregivers who are supporting a person with disability at home in daily oral care.
