Sandy Washburn, Ph.D., is an associate research scholar with the Center on Education and Lifelong Learning (CELL) at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Indiana University, Bloomington. She also serves as an adjunct professor in the School of Education.
Washburn’s teaching background and research interests revolves mainly around school-based practices and translating research to practice. She has served for many years as the state coordinator for school-wide PBIS and taught classes in classroom management, school discipline, and teaching students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. More recently, she has studied the impacts of early childhood adversity on learning and behavior, and has been busy providing professional development and consultation to schools as they embrace Social Emotional Learning, Trauma Informed Practices, and consider School Climate a driver of school change.
Degrees
Washburn holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan, a Master’s Degree in Special Education- motional Impairment and a K-12 Teaching License from Eastern Michigan University, and a Doctorate in Educational Psychology and Special Education from Indiana University Bloomington.
