Happy Alaska Day!

Friday, October 18, 2024

Alaska, at more than 650,000 square miles, is the largest state in the United States.  The property of Russia beginning in 1784, the US purchased the territory is 1867 for 7.2 million dollars.  That is equal to 129 million dollars today!

October 18th marks the statewide holiday known as Alaska Day.  It is celebrated in Sitka with a three-day festival that includes memorials, a parade, music and performances.

At Eppley, we are incredibly proud of our long-standing relationship with the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center.  Carhart and Eppley created and launched the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) online course, a free, self-paced course that identifies Alaska’s special provisions in wilderness legislation and how those provisions are implemented within the context of the Wilderness Act of 1964.

So, sit back with your moose slippers and tea and learn about management of wilderness in Alaska!
