Family values, access to resources and health care, poverty, and language can all be factors in establishing trust and working successfully with job seekers and supported employees. Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation VR personnel and the staff of community employment service providers in Indiana must be aware of and understand cultural differences in order to ensure an effective rehabilitation process for each consumer.
In May 2020, the Center on Community Living and Careers presented “Starting the Journey Toward Cultural Responsivity,” a free, three-part webinar series facilitated by Renae Azziz, director of educational partnerships and founder of Virtuoso Educational Consulting. Dr. Azziz led participants as they explored the definition of culture, engaged in activities focused on building awareness of their own cultures and the cultures of others, and reviewed resources supporting the development of the skills they need to effectively manage the dynamics of cultural difference.
Indiana employment professionals can now access the three cultural responsivity webinars at the link below or through the training pages of the CCLC website.
Webinar topics:
- Awareness of Cultural Responsivity
- The Relevancy of Culture in the Employment Process
- Practical Application: Strategies and Tools for You
