The 2021 Day and Employment Services Outcomes Systems (DESOS) report is now available. Compiled by Teresa Grossi, director of Strategic Developments at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, DESOS is a web-based, data collection application that creates empirically-based insights to guide legislators and their staff, state policymakers, and local service providers. The data is collected by the IIDC in partnership with community rehabilitation providers, Vocational Rehabilitation, and the state Developmental Disabilities agency.
Fifty-nine service providers submitted data for 9,775 individuals. Among the highlights in the latest DESOS report, which was compiled during the pandemic, the survey reveals a six percent decrease in sheltered employment. Employees operating in sheltered work received an average wage of $3.16 per hour, whereas the 22 percent who held individual jobs earned an average hourly rate of $9.80.
