Employment Specialist Training

Employment Specialist Training

New Indiana employment professionals who participate in Employment Specialist Training open opportunities for themselves and for the job seekers with disabilities they serve. Offered by the Center on Community Living and Careers, this training introduces new employment specialists, consultants, job developers and others involved in training, hiring, inclusion, and job placement, to the field of community employment services.

This multi-format training usually consists of online coursework and two, face-to-face meetings in Indianapolis. (Due to current pandemic precautions, we are replacing the face-to-face meetings with several virtual meetings. See dates and times, below.) Estimated training completion time is 40 hours.

Employment Specialist Training content includes:

  • Laws and policy
  • Vocational rehabilitation
  • Person-centered planning
  • Strategic plan development
  • Job development
  • Worksite analysis
  • Resource mapping
  • Task anlaysis
  • Assistive technology

Employment Specialist Training prepares participants for the Certified Employment Specialist Certification exam. Center on Community Living and Careers staff oversee ACRE-approved Employment specialist Training instruction with support form the Indiana Bureau of Rehabilitation Services. Individuals who attend both face-to-face meetings and successfully complete all online assignments receive a competency-based certificate from Indiana University.
